Day 1 International Flight to Guatemala City


Day 2

Arrive into Guatemala City and be greeted by your Travel Your World Tour Manager. After
your professional presentation to Guatemala Past & Present enjoy your first special Welcome
Dinner.

Day 3

Today experience the world of Fair Trade Coffee. As Green as it Gets (GAIG) is a charity
working to support small independent coffee producers and promoting environmentally
responsible agriculture in Guatemala. This tour takes you to visit some of the families supported
by this organization where you can work side-by-side with small coffee farmers in their daily
coffee processing, pick, pulp, ferment, wash, dry, trilla, sort, and grade the coffee depending on
the season, roast coffee over an open fire and grind by hand on a grindstone before sampling
your handiwork. Continue your day with a walking tour of Antigua. See the architectural &
historical highlights of this colonial city with many of the ruined churches, convents, and
cathedrals.

Day 4

Spend your day exploring the Turtle Conservation with local scientists in Monterrico, also
famous for it's volcanic black sand beaches.

Day 5

Today travel from Antigua to the famous Maya archaeology site of Iximche for a tour of
this fascinating site. Here you will the opportunity to meet a local Shaman who will perform an
authentic Maya ceremony for you in a local Maya language. Continue on to Lake Atitlan, called by
many as “the most beautiful lake in the world”. It is indeed an amazing setting with the crystal
blue waters of the lake surrounded by the three lofty peaks of Toliman, San Pedro and Atitlan
Volcanoes. Cruise the lake to the surrounding villages and experience the local indigenous
customs, traditions, dress and crafts.

Day 6

Spend you day on a guided tour of San Juan La Laguna with the Reforestation program
and learning to fish “local style”. Here you will be met by a representative from Global Visionaries
and are transferred to an area of reforestation work in the nearby area. As well as learning about
the importance of reforestation in the area and the ongoing work of Global Visionaries guests will
get some hands on experience at the project. The exact nature of the work will depend on what
season you are visiting. During planting season (the "green" or rainy season May - Oct), you will
help plant approximately 100 native tree species under the direction of the local Service
Coordinators. During maintenance season (the dry season Oct - May), you will work on
maintaining 2 acres of reforested land ensuring trees' survival and reducing possibility of forest
fire. Either way you will have a great deal of fun, getting hands-on experience while interacting
along side with Guatemalan elementary community members and students.

Day 7

Continue your adventure with your guide to the highland town of Chichicastenango.
Chichicastenango is famous for its large craft markets where craftsmen and villagers from all over
the highlands converge on this small town to sell their wares. Continuing along the way, pass
through the central highland region and see the local Maya people in their traditional dress going
about their daily lives - working in the fields, collecting firewood, travelling between markets,
selling their wares. Upon arrival at Chichicastenango your guide will take you to explore this
famous market both the local areas of the fruit & vegetables & everyday items as well as the craft
area where you can find endless variety of beautiful textile, wooden & ceramic crafts. Later
transfer to Guatemala city airport for domestic flight to Flores airport.

Day 8

This morning travel to Ixpanpajul Nature Park in the rainforest near the town of Flores
where you can enjoy a canopy walk trail or an exciting zip line adventure through the canopy. On
either trip you will be able to appreciate the local flora & fauna and see a variety of tropical
wildlife. Later cruise to Arcas, where upon your arrival enjoy a guided tour of the Animal
Rehabilitation and Education center of Arcas.

Day 9

Transfer to Guatemala City for the early morning flight to Flores in the northern rainforest.
You will be greeted by an Archaeology guide and transferred into the rainforest of the Tikal
National Park. Known as the City of Voices, these world famous Mayan temple ruins are located
in the protected rainforest and is an amazing highlight to any trip to Guatemala. Monkeys and
exotic birds complement the scene. Enjoy the sunset from top of the temples and your private
guided tour of this world famous site where ancient Maya Temples tower above the rainforest
canopy to see the sights and sounds of a wide variety of tropical bird and wildlife.

Day 10

Journey to Belize. Your day in Belize will start in Xunantunich (shoe-nan-too-nich), in
the Cayo District of Belize, situated on a limestone ridge about 183m (600ft) above sea level and
is the oldest archaeological park in Belize. Although it was inhabited as early as 1000 B.C it was
not until 700-900 A.D. that this site was transformed into one of the most important centers in the
upper Belize River valley. The most impressive structure in the site is known as the “Castillo” or
Castle, which rises to 42m (130ft) above the level of the courtyard and still showing some
remains of beautiful stucco friezes on the temple summit. Continue on to Cahal Pech Village on
the outskirts of San Ignacio.

Day 11

Your last day. Travel to Che Chem Ha Cave. Like other caves in the Mayan world were
used as ceremonial centers. The ancient Mayan believed that caves were the entrance to
Xibalba, the “underworld”. The underworld was made up of 9 of the 22 layers of life that made up
the world in which they lived. It is in this underworld that the Mayas left offerings to the gods. The
caves also were used as storehouses for grain and still contain numerous pristine artifacts,
including large pottery vessels, some with paintings and other distinct markings. Later enjoy the
rest of your day along the amazing coast of Caribbean Sea.

Join EducArte School, a community whose goal is to help families, which through the
scarcity of their own resources do not have access to education, health, or even the normal rights
and obligations of life. EducArte works principally with the children of these families, who often do
not even have access to basic social welfare programs. By offering your day here to volunteer
through work and play, you will not only enrich the children of the school but yours as well. What
a great way to end your first amazing experience of Guatemala!
